About
As a food reviewer of Restaurant World, I am excited to introduce the brand "El Jibarito" to all the food enthusiasts out there. Located in the heart of San Juan, Puerto Rico, this Puerto Rican-Latin American restaurant offers a unique dining experience.
El Jibarito is known for its home-cooked meals and vibrant ambiance. While the restaurant can get busy, it is worth the wait as you are greeted with a tasting of their delicious chicken stew to start off your meal.
The menu may be somewhat small, but it is far from disappointing. Customers rave about dishes like the chicken stew, red beans and rice, tostones, chuletas, and beef stew, all served with yellow rice and peas.
One of the highlights of El Jibarito is its authentic and casual vibes, making diners feel right at home. The staff is easy-going and even offers free samples of their mouth-watering dishes.
For those looking for pescatarian, vegan, or limited vegetarian options, El Jibarito has you covered. Their mojitos are known to be strong and refreshing, perfect for a hot day in Puerto Rico.
If you're in the mood for a traditional Puerto Rican meal with a twist, El Jibarito is the place to be. Don't miss out on their outdoor seating, full bar, and happy hour specials. This restaurant truly embodies the flavors and spirit of Puerto Rico.
“ Felt like a home cooked meal! It's a very busy restaurant, so you will probably have to wait a bit, which gives you a chance to walk the blue brick streets. Our server started us off with a tasting of the chicken stew- amazing! It sold my husband on it. The menu is somewhat small, but not disappointing. My husband ordered the chicken "stew" with a side of red beans and rice. I got the garlic shrimp, yellow rice, and added a side of sweet plantains. I got a mojito and he got a beer. Our meal came pretty quickly, and was fantastic! Nothing fancy, just really good food. I would definitely recommend this place in Old San Juan. ”
“ On our quick stop in San Juan, we were given the recommendation to go here because of the customer service, the food, and the price. Well, 2/3 isn't bad. The customer service end: we had to wait for over an hour to get seated and as people were leaving they were saying it was worth the wait as the food was so good! Well went up the alley to get drinks at a bar called La Verguenza and it was overlooking the ocean. It was already close to 7:00 so the sun was going down and on a Sunday night the motorcycles and cruising vehicles were numerous passing by. Very interesting people watching. So we sat down, ordered, but it took so long for the food to arrive. We were a party of 7, I will give them that. However, people seated after us got their food much sooner than we did. The ambience was that of an old casual restaurant with the San Juan Vibe. Not much upkeep going on inside. But finally, the food arrived. Our table ordered the Bistec Encebollado (cube steak), Sandwich el Jibarito, Pollo al Horno (baked chicken), Filete de Mero Al Horno (baked fish) , Chillo Frito (fried snapper), Pastelillos de carne, and Amarillos. Not overwhelmingly impressive overall, but the local flavor was well represented. The most impressive dish was the Chillo Frito, this one I would highly recommend! I am a fan of their amarillos (sweet plantains). I would say worth a try, but not really worth a long wait. ”
“ We love El Jibarito! The food is delicious and the ambience is happy. There is always going to be a crowd so it's worth the weight. Be sure to arrive with enough time to wait and enjoy your meal. My daughter loves their bacalito. Their Mojitos are really strong. So glad we have to walk everywhere in San Juan. There is no driving after this Mojito. It was someone's birthday and the staff sang a song. I've never heard before, which was fun and lively. This time I got the salmon and it was really good. You just leave happy from this place. Highly recommend. ”
“ We love easy going staffs! The lady offered us free samples of ready meat stew and it made us so happy. We ordered the chicken stew, the tostones and chuletas, as well as the beef stew. They came with yellow rice and peas and hot sauce, totally tasty! The vibes was bar and casual ”
“ Pork chop and white rice were great In old San Juan and both outside, inside and servers feel real authentic. Don't speak great English but can get by looking at the menu. Mini beef empanadas nothing special compared to other places I've had them locally. ”
